About Arf & Wag
At Arf & Wag, we believe dogs aren’t just companions—they’re family.
What began in 2019 in Sioux City, Iowa (USA) as a heartfelt effort to support animal rescue organizations through professional photography has since evolved into a dedicated brand known for its artistry, warmth, and unmistakable love of dogs.
Founder Michel, a professional photographer since 2006, launched Arf & Wag with one mission: to elevate the visibility of adoptable pets through beautiful, emotive imagery. The impact was immediate. By 2021, that grassroots mission grew into a full-service studio in Des Moines, Iowa, serving devoted pet parents across the region.
Behind the scenes (and often wrangling the more wiggly clients) is Dillon—Michel’s husband, animal handler, and lighting tech extraordinaire. His calm presence and behind-the-camera magic help bring each session to life.
So, how did we end up in Spain?
In 2022, driven by a desire to make a bigger difference, Michel and Dillon traveled to Cusco, Peru to learn firsthand about the street dog crisis. What they witnessed was heartbreaking—dogs poisoned, abandoned, and struggling to survive. With Michel’s Peruvian and Swiss roots, and a strong connection to the country and its animals, this experience sparked something deeper.
Together with a dedicated group of local activists, shelters, and veterinarians, Michel and Dillon co-founded Cusco Canine Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the goal of building a large-scale sanctuary for at-risk dogs. But it quickly became clear that their small studio in Des Moines wasn’t enough to support such a big dream.
In 2023, they made a bold move—selling their belongings and relocating to Valencia, Spain, to fully commit to their next chapter: Paws Across The World. Through this ongoing project, Arf & Wag now travels to different parts of the world, photographing dogs and their humans to raise awareness and funding for their mission.
Today, Arf & Wag continues to blend purpose with passion—creating joyful, soulful imagery while using our platform to advocate for dogs everywhere.
We believe every dog deserves to be seen, loved, and safe. And we’re just getting started.
